At the inauguration ceremony, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal described Pakistan as a “natural maritime bridge” linking the East and the West, adding that the country’s geographical position; where South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa converge, gives it immense strategic potential.
He pointed out that Pakistan possesses a 1,000-kilometre coastline, an exclusive economic zone of 290,000 square km, and abundant offshore resources in renewable energy, fisheries, and minerals.
Citing UNCTAD figures, Iqbal added that over 80% of world trade by volume and 70% by value moves through sea routes.
