Islamabad (TDI): The 19th Buraq Space Camp concluded with a closing ceremony on Monday at the Auditorium of the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat.

The ceremony brought together policymakers, scientists, educators, diplomats, and young participants to celebrate youth engagement and capacity building in space science and technology.

The ceremony commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by welcome remarks by Professor Dr. Shahid Mahmud, Chairman Buraq Society and Senior Honorary Advisor of OIC-COMSTECH.

He highlighted the long-standing role of the Buraq Society in nurturing young talent in space sciences and emphasized the importance of sustained mentorship and hands-on learning for youth.

Calling youth empowerment the foundation of Pakistan’s digital and economic future, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, stressed that sustained investment in young talent is vital for national progress.

She encouraged students to pursue innovation, critical thinking, and ethical use of technology, noting that Pakistan’s future competitiveness depends on a skilled and forward-looking youth.

Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, underscored the growing relevance of space science in modern development.

He noted that space technologies now play a critical role in communication, climate monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, and sustainable development, particularly for developing countries.

He stressed that investing in youth through initiatives like the Buraq Space Camp is an investment in future scientific leadership and innovation.

Brief remarks were also delivered by Haadiya Usman, Base Commander of Buraq Society, who shared reflections on the camp activities and commended the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants.

Usman Yousuf, Vice Chairman of Buraq Society, emphasized the importance of continuity, collaboration, and creating pathways for students to pursue careers in space science and related fields.

The Guest of Honor, Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher – Assistant Secretary General (Science & Technology) at OIC General Secretariat, appreciated the efforts of OIC-COMSTECH and Buraq Society in promoting space science education among youth.

He reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in science and technology across member states. The ceremony also featured a farewell video, followed by a vote of thanks, prize distribution, and group photographs.
