UK Forces Repel Drone, Missile Attacks on Iraq Base

Drone, Missile, Iraq, Iran, ceasefire

Bagdad (TDI): British troops helped repel a sustained wave of drone and missile attacks on a coalition military base in Iraq during the early phase of the Iran conflict, according to media reports.

Citing defense sources, Sky News reported that the base, used by UK, US, and allied forces, faced up to 28 incoming projectiles a day at the peak of hostilities following US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

Personnel from the Royal Air Force Regiment were involved in intercepting more than 100 drones and missiles over a six-week period before a temporary ceasefire was reached in April.

The base, which has operated for over a decade as part of international efforts to counter extremist groups such as Daesh, has increasingly come under threat from Iran and allied militias in the region.

Despite the intensity of the attacks, there have been no direct hits reported at the facility in the past three weeks, suggesting a relative easing of immediate threats following the ceasefire.

Officials say the incidents highlight the heightened risks faced by coalition forces as regional tensions continue to spill over into neighbouring countries.
