Kyiv/Paris, 10 September 2022 (TDI): The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephonic conversation with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The Ukrainian President briefed the French President on the course of hostilities in Ukraine. He also brought up the issue of banning Russian visas in France.

Moreover, Both the dignitaries talked about the situation at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. They discussed the demilitarization of the nuclear plant to save Europe from a nuclear disaster.

Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant Crisis

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is considered Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, has been damaged by shelling near the frontline in Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine have both accused one another of shelling the facility dangerously close. There are concerns that more damage could cause a radioactive crisis in the nation. Ukraine is already managing the cleanup from the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

There has been severe damage done to crucial infrastructure surrounding the facility. Russian forces took control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear reactor in early March.

Moscow refers to this as its “special military operation” in Ukraine. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ukrainian technicians are still running the facility under very demanding conditions.

Ukraine and France Relations

France and Ukraine established their diplomatic ties in 1992. France has an embassy in Kyiv and Ukraine has an embassy in Paris. After the beginning of the Russo-Ukraine conflict, the French government made its stance clear on the issue and supported Ukraine.

The French government stated “On 24 February 2022, 8 years after the illegal annexation of Crimea and the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014, the Russian Federation made the deliberate, unjustifiable choice to start a war against Ukraine.

From the very first day of the conflict, France and its European Union partners chose to stand firmly alongside Ukraine and its people.”

France supports Ukraine and implies that this also means defending International Law and the security of the European continent.

“From the very first day of the war, France and its partners have unwaveringly supported Ukraine and its people.” said the French government.
