Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan and the World Bank have agreed to collaborate on addressing the growing issue of smog in the country.
This decision was made during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine in Islamabad.
The two sides agreed to form a joint team comprising officials from the World Bank and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to develop a comprehensive anti-smog plan.
Minister Naqvi expressed Pakistan’s willingness to welcome the World Bank’s support in improving air quality in Islamabad, emphasizing that the government is taking proactive steps to combat the smog issue.
He also mentioned the potential installation of anti-smog machines in the capital as part of the solution.
Furthermore, Naqvi highlighted that improving living conditions in slums and rural areas remains a key priority for the government.
He reiterated the commitment to providing clean water and sanitation to underserved communities as part of broader developmental goals.
Pakistan, World Bank Cooperation
The W-Bank has been a critical partner for Pakistan, providing financial assistance, technical expertise, and policy advice on a range of projects aimed at boosting the country’s infrastructure, improving governance, and promoting social welfare.
Recent discussions have centered on expanding this collaboration to address pressing issues, such as climate change, water scarcity, and healthcare.

One of the focal points of the cooperation is improving Pakistan’s energy sector, with the World Bank supporting initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and invest in renewable energy sources.

In the health and education sectors, the World Bank’s programs are aimed at improving access to quality services for marginalized communities, with a focus on women and children.
Pakistan and the WB are committed to jointly working towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring inclusive growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability.
Their strengthened partnership is poised to play a crucial role in the country’s long-term development trajectory.
