Beijing (TDI): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Naheed Naveed Atif has highlighted the bloc’s growing importance in promoting regional stability, economic development, and connectivity across Eurasia, as the organisation marks its 25th anniversary.
Naheed praised member states for what she described as the organisation’s steady evolution over the past quarter-century, particularly in the areas of regional security cooperation and development-focused integration.
Speaking after a reception held in Beijing to mark the SCO’s anniversary, she credited member countries, especially China, for their role in strengthening the organisation’s institutional framework and expanding its practical cooperation agenda.
She said the SCO’s value lies in its ability to bring together major regional powers under a consensus-based decision-making model, allowing members to engage in dialogue, understand differing positions, and work toward common solutions through consultation.

Naheed added that the organisation plays a significant role in promoting multilateralism and supporting what she described as a more balanced and equitable global governance system.
She noted that the SCO’s structure, which prioritises consensus over confrontation, makes it an effective platform for managing regional differences while advancing shared priorities such as security cooperation, trade connectivity, and development initiatives.
The remarks come as the SCO continues to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint, with member states increasingly emphasizing coordination on counterterrorism, infrastructure development, and regional trade integration.
