Islamabad (TDI): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday that the latest counterterrorism dialogue between Pakistan and the United States would pave the way for a joint action plan, marking a step forward in strengthening bilateral ties.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with US Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory LoGerfo. According to the Interior Ministry, the two discussed expanding cooperation in counterterrorism, border security, and counter-narcotics, while also reviewing the broader state of relations between the two countries.
“The counterterrorism dialogue will help in formulating a joint action plan,” Naqvi was quoted as saying. He expressed hope that Pakistan-US cooperation would produce “positive results” in eliminating terrorism.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker, and the federal interior secretary also attended the meeting.

Naqvi noted what he described as an “extraordinary improvement” in ties since President Donald Trump took office, praising the US leader’s role in promoting global peace. “The elements of transparency, mutual trust and cooperation are prominent in Pak-US relations,” he said, calling it an ideal moment to broaden cooperation across all fields.
He also welcomed Washington’s recent decision to list the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its Majeed Brigade unit as global terrorist organizations, calling it a “good step.”
LoGerfo offered condolences over lives lost in recent terrorist attacks and described Pakistan as “a very important country in geo-strategic terms.”
Earlier this week, the US reaffirmed its commitment to combat terrorism alongside Pakistan, following a meeting co-chaired by LoGerfo and Pakistan’s UN Special Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir as part of the US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue.

The previous round of the dialogue, held in May 2024, saw both sides pledge to continue working together to bolster regional and global security.
The meeting comes shortly after Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded his second visit to Washington in under two months, which he described as ushering in a “new dimension” in bilateral ties. In June, Munir became the first serving Pakistani army chief to hold an official face-to-face meeting with a sitting US president, discussing joint counterterrorism efforts and ways to expand bilateral trade.
US President Donald Trump, during that meeting, praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and “appreciated the robust counterterrorism cooperation” between the two countries.
