Kyrgyz Foreign Minister receives UN Climate Change Regional Ambassador

Bishkek, 8 October 2021 (TDI): Kyrgyz Foreign Minister, Ruslan Kazakbaev received the Regional Ambassador of Europe, Central Asia, Turkey, and Iran, David Moran. The meeting is for the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-26).

The interlocutors exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming COP-26 conference. It will take place from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, UK.

David Moran presented up-to-date information on the preparations for COP-26. Also, noted the opportunities for countries to demonstrate their climate ambitions. Minister Kazakbaev informed about the Kyrgyz commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement. Also, briefed about the national plans to reduce greenhouse gases by 2030 and the desire to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Kazakbaev informed that the Kyrgyz Republic is vulnerable to climate change. It is a mountainous landlocked country. He informed about the plans to take part in this global climate conference. Moreover, expressed gratitude to the British side for the support provided to the Kyrgyz Republic in preparation for COP-26.

The parties agreed that the fight against climate change can become a promising area of bilateral cooperation between the two states.
