Beirut (TDI): Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has said that Israel has carried out nearly 3,500 airstrikes in Lebanon since a US-brokered ceasefire was announced in April, along with hundreds of additional demolitions in southern areas.
According to comments shared on social media following a cabinet meeting, Salam said that between April 17 and June 7, Israeli forces conducted 3,491 airstrikes, 407 controlled demolitions, and several large-scale destruction operations that have reportedly levelled entire villages in southern Lebanon.
The US-mediated ceasefire took effect on April 17, but has not fully stopped hostilities on the ground, particularly in southern Lebanon where fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continues. While the agreement reduced strikes around Beirut, clashes and cross-border attacks have persisted.
The Israeli military has not yet responded to the allegations. Salam warned that renewed regional escalation, particularly involving Iran and Israel, has worsened Lebanon’s humanitarian situation and increased displacement pressures. He said more than one million people, around one-fifth of Lebanon’s population, have been forced to leave their homes since the conflict intensified earlier this year.

Hezbollah has continued launching attacks against Israel in support of its regional allies, while rejecting US-backed efforts to formalize a longer-term peace arrangement between Lebanon and Israel.
Recent incidents include Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs following Hezbollah rocket fire, as well as retaliatory exchanges involving Iran and Israel that have further widened the regional conflict.
