Erdogan Praises Trump’s 20‑Point Gaza Plan, Urges Lasting Ceasefire

Ankara (TDI): Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan lauded the US President Donald Trump for spearheading a 20‑point proposal for ending war in Gaza, on Tuesday.

White House released the complete draft of the plan after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also backed it, during Washington meeting with Trump on Monday.

The plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Hamas disarmament, and the creation of a transitional government under international supervision in Gaza.

In a statement made on social media platform X, Erdogan praised Trump’s “efforts and leadership” in attempting to halt the violence.

“Türkiye will continue to contribute to the process with a view to establishing a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties,” he added.

Turkiye has been among the most vocal critics of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, which it has repeatedly condemned as “genocide.”

In recent months, Ankara halted all trade with Israel, urged increased international pressure on Netanyahu’s administration, and backed a two‑state solution.

Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, held consultations with counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Jordan to review Trump’s proposal and coordinate regional response.

Observers are viewing the peace plan with caution, because it remains to be seen if Hamas agrees to the points laid down in the proposed plan. It has historically rejected proposals which demand giving up arms.

Gaza’s humanitarian crisis continues to worsen amid widespread displacement, scarcity of essential supplies, and Israel’s ground offensive killing innocent civilians every day.
