China, Africa to Sign New BRI Deals

-

Beijing, 3 September 2024 (TDI): China is set to sign new cooperation agreements with several African countries under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Xu Jianping, an official with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said the new agreements aim to deepen China-Africa cooperation and deliver tangible results under the BRI framework.

“China will work closely with African nations and the African Union to strengthen cooperation, expand areas of collaboration, and jointly promote modernization,” Xu said.
China plans to enhance strategic alignment, connectivity, and explore new areas for cooperation, seeking significant progress in these partnerships, Xu added.

China, Africa Cooperation

Over the past decade, 52 African countries and the African Union Commission have signed Memorandums of Understanding on Belt and Road Cooperation with China.
It leads to notable achievements in infrastructure, health, green development, the digital economy, agriculture, and talent training.

The benefits of these projects have positively impacted local communities, noted Tang Lixia, professor and deputy dean at the College of International Development and Global Agriculture at China Agricultural University.

“China’s support in building roads and railways has improved transportation, connecting supply and demand in agricultural markets, and encouraging farmers to boost food production,” Tang said.
