Kabul: July 25, 2021- (TDI): Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon delivered a speech to members of the armed forces. He expressed his hope for peace and harmony in Afghanistan. While speaking to the Armed forces, President said that the Afghan people have a long history and civilization and cannot be held responsible for events that occur on their soil. These events are the outcome of nearly forty years of outside involvement by the neighboring country.
He said that Afghanistan should determine the method of governance solely on the choice of the majority of the people. He went on to say that in the past, despite heavy combat on Afghan land, Afghan authorities mediated for peace in Tajikistan, resulting in a significant shift in the negotiation process. He showed optimism that, in the end, peace and stability will be restored and more comprehensive ties between Tajikistan and Afghanistan will be formed.
The Government of Afghanistan applauded the goodwill and continued support of Tajikistan for the past thirty years. Afghanistan reasserts the need of developing regional unity in combating terrorism and violent extremism as it poses a common threat to regional countries and the world.
