Islamabad, 20 September 2022 (TDI): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West called on the Foreign Minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The meeting was held on the sidelines of UNGA 77, the UN General Assembly’s 77th session in New York.
On this occasion, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar and US Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights Rina Amiri were also present.

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan expressed deep sympathy for the hardship of millions of Pakistanis as a result of the terrible floods. They talked about how everyone wants to see a strong response to the humanitarian and economic crises in Afghanistan.
The Special Representative and Foreign Minister expressed grave worries about breaches of Afghans’ fundamental liberties, as well as a desire for the Taliban to fulfill their pledges regarding terrorism.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that Pakistan prioritizes “a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.”
The Foreign Minister emphasized the need of maintaining international involvement with the Interim Afghan Government. It will help achieve long-term stabilization and peace in Afghanistan and beyond.
The Foreign Minister highlighted Pakistan’s positive and constructive efforts in forging regional agreement on Afghanistan’s next steps, especially through the extended troika framework.
He also underscored Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with Afghanistan along with its significant facilitation of international humanitarian aid.
US Special Representative
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, the special representative for Afghanistan has commended Pakistan.
He acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan to peace and security in Afghanistan, as well as assisting the evacuation from Afghanistan.
The two members agreed on the importance of continuing collaboration on shared objectives. Moreover, they stressed the international community’s work to “reduce the pain and suffering of the Afghan people and promote regional peace and stability.
