Washington (TDI): Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, with a focus on economic and security partnerships, the Foreign Office announced on Thursday.

The pledge followed a meeting in Washington between Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and Congressman Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Both sides emphasized the strategic importance of their partnership for regional stability and mutual interests.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sheikh highlighted the potential for expanded economic collaboration, calling for a high-level dialogue to commence promptly.

He noted opportunities in energy, defense, minerals, information technology, and artificial intelligence, emphasizing Pakistan’s low-cost, high-quality capabilities to meet US market demands.

The ambassador also highlighted Pakistan’s global reputation in manufacturing, citing the quality of surgical instruments and sports goods, including footballs from Sialkot used in the last five FIFA World Cup tournaments, as evidence of the country’s export potential.

He stressed that a favourable trade environment could significantly boost textile and other Pakistani exports.

On security issues, Ambassador Sheikh raised concerns about terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, noting a 40% rise in incidents in Pakistan in 2024 and a further 25% increase in 2025.
