Islamabad (TDI): Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam has said the Middle East and surrounding region could see new political alignments emerge after the end of the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion hosted by the Centre for International Strategic Studies in Islamabad, the ambassador said Iran considers Pakistan one of its most important regional partners and believes bilateral relations are steadily strengthening.

The event brought together diplomats, academics, and policy experts to discuss the future of Pakistan-Iran relations and the broader regional situation amid continued tensions and a fragile ceasefire linked to the US-Iran conflict.

Moghadam said Iran has consistently sought positive relations with neighboring countries but argued that the recent war could significantly reshape regional politics. According to him, the conflict may reduce US influence in the region and increase Israel’s isolation internationally.

He also suggested that the post-war environment could create opportunities for broader regional cooperation involving countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

The ambassador thanked Pakistan for what he described as continued support during difficult circumstances and acknowledged Islamabad’s role in facilitating contacts between Washington and Tehran. He also reiterated that Iran would never allow its territory to be used against Pakistan.

Former Pakistani ambassador Asif Durrani said the ports of Chabahar Port and Gwadar Port should be seen as complementary projects capable of boosting regional trade and connectivity rather than competitors.

He added that Pakistan’s diplomatic policy seeks to maintain balanced relations with both the United States and Iran, focusing on de-escalation, regional stability, and long-term peace efforts.
