Islamabad (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Friday that Pakistan has contacted Singapore to seek assistance in ensuring the welfare and repatriation of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian nationals aboard vessels seized by the United States.
In a post on X, he stated that the ships are currently located near Singaporean waters. He added that he also spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and that both sides are maintaining close coordination on the matter.
Dar said Pakistan is prepared to help facilitate the safe return of Iranian nationals to Iran via Pakistani territory. He also noted appreciation for Singapore’s cooperation and support, while stressing that Pakistan is working with US authorities and other relevant parties to ensure the safety and early repatriation of its citizens.
The Foreign Office said Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan welcomed Pakistan’s efforts and acknowledged its role in promoting regional peace, particularly through facilitating dialogue between the US and Iran.
Both sides discussed maritime issues and recent incidents in international waters, agreeing to maintain close coordination between relevant authorities. They also reviewed bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of continued high-level engagement.

The development follows Pakistan’s earlier assistance in the return of crew members from a US-seized Iranian vessel. At least 15 sailors had already been repatriated earlier this week as part of confidence-building measures.
The vessel was boarded by US forces in April near Iran’s Chabahar port, with Washington claiming it violated maritime restrictions and failed to respond to warnings. Iran has previously condemned such actions, while tensions in the Strait of Hormuz region have remained high amid ongoing geopolitical disputes and naval incidents involving multiple countries.
