Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan on Thursday expressed hope that an agreement between the United States and Iran would be reached soon, saying Islamabad continued to support diplomatic efforts aimed at securing peace and stability in the region.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi made the remarks during the weekly media briefing in Islamabad, where he said Pakistan would welcome any settlement reached between Washington and Tehran.
“We are hopeful that an agreement between the US and Iran will happen soon,” Andrabi said while responding to a question regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts.
He added that Pakistan would consider it an honour if any agreement between the two countries was finalised in Islamabad. “If an agreement is reached in Pakistan, it would be an honour for us,” he stated.
The spokesperson, however, declined to comment on reports regarding the possible structure of the agreement, saying he could not confirm whether the proposed draft would consist of a single page or a longer document.

His comments came amid reports that the United States and Iran were moving closer towards a peace agreement after weeks of heightened tensions in the Gulf region.
Recent developments included the suspension of “Project Freedom”, a US naval operation launched to facilitate the movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz amid fears of escalating confrontation with Iran.
Andrabi recalled that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had welcomed the “timely announcement” regarding the pause in the operation and had reiterated Pakistan’s support for diplomatic engagement and peaceful dialogue between the two countries.
The spokesperson said Pakistan remained firmly committed to efforts aimed at encouraging restraint and reducing tensions through diplomacy.
He added that the prime minister had expressed hope that the current momentum in talks would lead to a lasting agreement ensuring peace and stability in the region and beyond.
