Moscow (TDI): Russian President Vladimir Putin has described the growing relationship between Russia and China as a “stabilizing force” in global affairs ahead of his upcoming talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In remarks released before his two-day visit to China, Putin said Moscow and Beijing are not forming alliances against any third country but are instead working together to promote “peace and universal prosperity.” He stressed that both nations aim to support international law and uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Putin said cooperation between the two countries has reached what he called an “unprecedented level,” with close coordination on issues such as sovereignty, national unity, and global governance. He added that Russia and China are expanding collaboration across political, economic, defense, cultural, and people-to-people sectors.
The Russian leader is scheduled to arrive in China today and is scheduled a summit with Xi Jinping, marking another high-level meeting between the two leaders within a year. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Russia–China Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation.

The talks come at a time when both countries continue to strengthen ties amid strained relations with the West, particularly following Russia’s war in Ukraine and ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States.
Russia has increasingly relied on China for economic support, especially through energy exports such as oil, gas, and coal, while China continues to supply Russia with manufactured goods and industrial products. Bilateral trade has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting deeper economic interdependence.
Analysts say the summit is expected to reinforce strategic coordination between Moscow and Beijing, both of which see their partnership as a way to balance US global influence while maintaining flexibility in their foreign policy positions.
