Madrid (TDI): The United Nations Foundation has awarded the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, with the Champion for Global Change Award.
Sánchez hailed Spain’s international role and the commitment of all Spaniards to “peace, international justice, and cooperation.”
In a post shared on X, Sánchez said he is honored to receive the award, and perceived it not as a personal achievement but a collective acknowledgment of Spain’s values.
“We are a great country. And that is how they see us from the United Nations as well,” he wrote. The “We the Peoples Award,” associated with initiatives connected to the United Nations, celebrates leadership and contributions aligned with multilateral cooperation and sustainable global progress.

Under Sánchez’s leadership, Spain has been increasingly vocal in global forums on issues such as conflict resolution, climate action, and humanitarian cooperation.
His administration has consistently advocated for strengthening multilateral institutions and reinforcing international law; positions that align closely with the principles championed by UN-affiliated bodies.
In his message at the UN Foundation, Sánchez said he believes “We the Peoples” is actually about those who suffer in conflicts, and not those who live in safety. He stressed that the United Nations is for such people who live in hardship.
Sánchez has been very vocal about humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and has on every forum brought up Israel’s disregard for international law.
The award reinforces Spain’s ongoing engagement with global institutions and highlights the country’s aspiration to remain a key player in multilateral efforts.
