United Nations (TDI): Pakistan has warned that rising tensions across the Middle East, from Gaza to the Strait of Hormuz, could spiral into a wider crisis, urging immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session, Pakistan’s permanent representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stressed that the region is facing multiple, interconnected challenges that require urgent de-escalation.
He called for strict adherence to international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions, emphasizing that restraint and responsible conduct are essential to avoid a broader conflict.
Highlighting the centrality of the Palestinian issue, the ambassador said lasting peace in the region cannot be achieved without addressing the situation in Palestine.
On Gaza, he noted that while a ceasefire has brought some relief, it remains fragile, with continued violations and civilian casualties reported. Humanitarian aid has resumed, he said, but falls far short of what is needed on the ground, calling for sustained and unhindered assistance.

He also raised alarm over worsening conditions in the West Bank, pointing to increasing violence, expansion of settlements, and measures he described as violations of international law.
Beyond Palestine, the envoy warned that broader regional tensions are beginning to impact global stability, particularly through disruptions in key maritime routes. He noted that developments around the Strait of Hormuz are affecting economies worldwide, including Pakistan’s.
Reiterating Islamabad’s stance, Ahmad said diplomacy remains the only viable path forward, adding that Pakistan is actively supporting efforts to promote dialogue and reduce tensions.
