-

Beirut, 3 November 2021 (TDI): Foreign Affairs Minister of Lebanon, Abdullah Bou Habib, and the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, made a statement regarding diplomatic tensions with Saudi Arabia.

According to him, Lebanon’s position is to establish the best relations with Saudi Arabia, Gulf, and Arab countries. Minister Bou Habib also stressed that relations should not be affected by any individual position.

The Foreign Minister strongly believes that any problem between two countries must be resolved through dialogue and coordination. He mentioned the principles of the Charter of the League of Arab States as a point to restart negotiations.

Bou Habib also expressed that “any separation from the countries will have negative repercussions which harm solidarity and cooperation between brothers”. Furthermore, he explained that the country was never but a supporter of all brotherly Arab countries, and it was never, and will never be, a focal point to harm any country.

The Presidency Press Office declared: “We are confident that what happened during the past few days should stop at giving priority to the common Arab interest (…) Lebanon also stresses the necessity of understanding the requirements of the democratic system chosen by the Lebanese”. Both, the President and the Foreign Minister keep reaffirming Lebanon’s will to support Arab countries under any circumstances.
