Chinese peacekeepers awarded with United Nations Medal

Juba, 5 October 2021 (TDI): The seven hundred Chinese peacekeepers (troops) were awarded with ”United Nations Medal”. The medal was awarded for their commitment to bring peace and stability in South Sudan. 

The award ceremony was place at UNMISS headquarters in Juba, South Sudan. Two special guests attended the ceremony, the Secretary-General Special Representative, Nicholas Haysom, and Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Hua Ning.

Under the Protection of Civilians (POC) Act, Chinese military contingents have taken considerable measures to ensure peace, secure environment for civilians in South Sudan.

From last three decades, China has been the second largest financial contributor in UN Peacekeeping Missions. China have approximately provided more than 30,000 peacekeepers to 24 different Peacekeeping missions of UN.
