Tianjin (TDI): A new green industry cooperation platform between China and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was officially launched in Tianjin on Tuesday, according to Chinese state media.

The initiative is designed to boost dialogue, expand project-based cooperation, and harmonize green industry standards across SCO member states.

It will focus on developing integrated green supply chains, advancing joint research, and applying innovative clean technologies.

Officials noted that green industries are becoming a major driver of economic transformation and sustainable growth among SCO countries.

China has pledged to work closely with member states to build what it described as a “new pattern of green, high-quality, and sustainable SCO development.”

The launch follows China’s announcement at the “SCO Plus” meeting on Monday of three new cooperation platforms with SCO members, covering energy, green industry, and the digital economy.

As the world’s largest builder of renewable energy projects, China has extensive expertise in solar and wind technologies.

It has already been working with countries across Central Asia and beyond to accelerate the shift toward clean energy.

One major example is Uzbekistan’s 1-gigawatt Bukhara Wind Power Project, the largest of its kind in Central Asia.

Built by a consortium of Chinese firms, the project was connected to the grid in March 2025.

It is expected to produce 3.59 billion kilowatt-hours annually, about seven percent of Uzbekistan’s electricity supply, while cutting carbon emissions by 1.6 million tons each year.
