Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that he prevented a war from reigniting between nuclear-armed neighbors Pakistan and India, while also highlighting his role in halting conflicts around the globe.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the Oval Office, Trump said, “I’ve stopped eight wars… I’ve actually stopped eight wars,” expressing pride in his global mediation efforts.
Referring to South Asia, he added, “We stopped India and Pakistan… I stopped one that was almost ready to start again,” likely alluding to the May 2025 military escalation between the two nations. During that confrontation, sparked by a terrorist attack in IIOJK’s Pahalgam area, Pakistan and India engaged in a tense 87-hour standoff. Islamabad denied involvement in the attack, which killed 26 people, and offered to participate in a neutral investigation.

During the clashes, Pakistan downed seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale jets, along with dozens of drones. The crisis ended on May 10 with a US-brokered ceasefire, which Trump said saved millions of lives. He recalled that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally thanked him for preventing a potential nuclear conflict.
Trump also touched on other international conflicts, citing interventions in Gaza, Ukraine, and disputes in Africa and the Middle East. “Eight wars stopped in nine months, India-Pakistan, Israel-Iran, Rwanda-Congo, Ethiopia-Egypt, Armenia-Azerbaijan, and now Gaza. I’m working on Ukraine next,” he said, while highlighting a recent Gaza mediation that led to the release of 20 Israeli hostages and 2,000 Palestinian detainees.

On Russia, Trump admitted, “I’m a little surprised at Putin. It’s taken longer than I thought,” reflecting on ongoing developments in Ukraine.
The president framed these efforts as part of a broader push to achieve global peace through US diplomatic engagement, positioning his administration as a key mediator in some of the world’s most sensitive conflicts.
