Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with Kaan Terzioglu, chief executive officer of VEON Group — a telecommunications and digital services company, on investment opportunities and the promotion of the digital economy in Pakistan on Wednesday.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister House, focused on expanding digital investment and strengthening the country’s information and communications technology sector.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign investment, particularly in digital infrastructure and services.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the recent successful auction of the 5G spectrum, in which 480 megahertz of bandwidth was sold for approximately $507 million.
Major telecom operators including Zong, Jazz, and Ufone participated in the auction, acquiring key portions of the 2,600 MHz band required for next-generation connectivity.

PM Shehbaz also briefed the VEON Group CEO on government initiatives aimed at digitizing the economy, improving transparency, and encouraging greater participation of youth in the IT sector.
Kaan Terzioglu appreciated Pakistan’s investment potential and acknowledged the government’s efforts toward developing a cashless economy. He also expressed VEON Group’s interest in expanding its investments and footprint in the country.
VEON Group, a global telecommunications and digital services company, currently operates in several markets and has a presence in Pakistan through its telecom ventures.

In addition to the 5G spectrum rollout, the government is pursuing broader digital infrastructure development, including satellite-based internet services, enhanced connectivity through international submarine cable systems, and expansion of fibre-optic networks across the country.
These initiatives aim to position Pakistan as a regional digital hub while supporting economic growth and technological advancement.
