New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI):  On Wednesday, France, Germany, and Italy hosted the UN Ministerial on Libya. The meeting held on the UNGA sideline was attended by foreign ministers of participants in the Berlin process, Libya’s regional neighbors, and UN representatives. The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized support for a sovereign, stable, unified, and secure Libya, free from foreign interference.

Blinken called on Libya’s leaders to take the steps necessary to ensure credible and transparent elections on 24 December, as outlined by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Roadmap, including the need for agreement on a constitutional framework.

Blinken also reaffirmed the support of the United States for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries per UNSC Resolution 2570 and the US support for full implementation of the Libyan October 2020 ceasefire.

The Secretary also stressed the United States’ support for the renewal of the UN Human Rights Council Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya’s work, to document human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law, and the need to give unhindered access to the Mission.
