Islamabad 12th August 2024 (TDI): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced a major decision to block illegal SIMs. Starting August 16, SIMs registered on canceled CNICs will be blocked. Subscribers can restore their SIMs by obtaining new CNICs from NADRA and undergoing biometric verification.
SIMs registered on expired CNICs, which have been expired since 2017, will also be blocked. Subscribers have been given a deadline of September 2 to renew their CNICs. SIMs registered on expired CNICs will be blocked on September 2.
Furthermore, SIMs registered on deceased individuals’ CNICs will be blocked on October 15. PTA has sent alerts to subscribers with blocked SIMs, informing them to transfer their SIMs to their names by providing a death certificate, proof of relationship, and other required documents.
PTA has obtained data from NADRA on expired, canceled, and deceased individuals’ CNICs to identify and block illegal SIMs. This move aims to curb illegal activities and ensure a secure communication network.
