PMD Forecasts Rain in Smog-Hit Punjab, KP

ISLAMABAD (TDI): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in smog-hit Lahore and other parts of Punjab between November 14 and 15, offering relief from the ongoing smog and poor air quality (AQI) in the region.

According to the PMD, the anticipated rainfall is expected to improve air quality in Lahore and nearby cities, providing much-needed respite to residents battling hazardous pollution levels.

Forecast for Rain and Thunderstorms:

The weather advisory issued by the PMD indicates that light rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, is expected in several areas, including Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Peshawar, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mianwali, Khushab, and Sargodha on the evening and night of November 14 and the morning of November 15.

In southern regions, light rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Qilla Saifullah, Bhakkar, Layyah, and Dera Ghazi Khan on November 15.

Heavy Rain and Snowfall Expected in Northern Regions:

The PMD also predicts rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over the mountains, in northern areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Murree, Galliyat, and parts of Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) and Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, Ghanche, Shigar) from the evening of November 14 to the afternoon of November 16.

Following the rain, dense fog is likely to develop in the plains of Punjab, especially after the wet spell, further complicating visibility in some areas.

Advisory for Authorities and Public:

The PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain on alert and take necessary precautions to prevent any potential hazards due to the changing weather. Farmers and travelers have also been urged to remain cautious and plan their activities in accordance with the weather forecast.

With the predicted rain offering a chance to improve air quality, the forecast brings hope to residents enduring poor conditions in Lahore and across Punjab.
