PIA flight lands in Damascus After 22 years

Damascus, 18 September 2021 (TDI): An airplane of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) carrying 322 pilgrims landed in Damascus after 22 years. The plane welcomed the traditional gesture of a water gun salute at the Damascus airport.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan and CEO of PIA, Arshad Malik were also on board during this noteworthy flight. According to Arshad Malik, this action will serve as a prelude to boost religious tourism between the two countries along with bolstering bilateral relations. The transport minister of the city lauded the development. It implied that in the future special flights will be converted into frequently scheduled flights.

It is important to note that Pakistan has already been running special flights to Najaf, since Ashura, under the umbrella of religious tourism.
