Tashkent, 26 July 2022 (TDI): Pakistani Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the Tashkent International Conference on “Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development”.

The Conference started yesterday and Delegations from different countries as well as international organizations are also participating. The Conference is therefore a continuation of international engagement in Afghanistan.
In line with the Conference, political issues, humanitarian assistance, and economic or connectivity projects are under discussion.
“We look at this Conference as a welcome opportunity to pursue practical and continuous engagement between the Interim Afghan Government and the international community, as has been Pakistan’s principled position,” underlined Pakistan’s Special Representative.
Noteworthy, Sadiq previously held a useful meeting with Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan, Aybek Arif Usmanov. Likewise, they discussed the Tashkent International Conference that is currently taking place.

Meetings on the sidelines of the International Conference
Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan also held meetings with top officials on the sidelines of the International Conference.
In line with this, Sadiq’s first meeting was with the Acting Afghan Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi. Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest and deliberated on “untapped venues of bilateral cooperation”.

Following this, Sadiq met with Japan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Nagaoka Kansuke, and UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Nigel Casey as well.
Tashkent International Conference
In light of the conference, the discussions encompass the actions of the international community in providing urgent humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
Along with promoting the economic recovery of Afghanistan. That is, the focus is on the situation in Afghanistan, security, peace, and economic development of the region.
In line with meeting Afghanistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Uzbekistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Vladimir Norov expressed his pleasure at the participation of the High Delegation of Afghanistan in the international meeting in Tashkent.
Norov accepted the recent developments within the field of strengthening security in Afghanistan. Together with the development of trade between Central and South Asia through Afghanistan.
Today, IEA delegation led by FM Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met in Tashkent with Acting FM of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov.

Additionally, Muttaqi ensured that the secure security in Afghanistan has created good opportunities for investment. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan highlighted the preparations of Afghanistan for the railway project.
All in all, Muttaqi remarked that good progress has been made with regard to the negotiations with Uzbekistan and Pakistan and practical work will begin.
