Bishkek (TDI): The Forum of Think Tanks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states opened on Thursday in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the National Institute for Strategic Initiatives under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event is being held under the theme “The SCO in the Context of the Transformation of the Global Order. The Role and Significance of Think Tanks: Challenges and Opportunities.”
During the forum’s four panel sessions, participants are discussing a wide range of issues, including security and stability in the SCO region amid global uncertainty, economic integration, transport and digital connectivity, the development of a shared intellectual space, and the prospects for cooperation in mountain regions.
Representatives from leading research institutes and analytical organisations across all ten SCO member states are participating in the event.
Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan addressed the opening session on behalf of the SCO Secretariat, highlighting key priority areas of the organisation’s work in politics and security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan, as the current chair of the SCO, has introduced several important initiatives, including the establishment of the Think Tank Forum, which aims to serve as a dedicated platform for expert dialogue and practical cooperation among member states.

Sohail Khan further stated that the forum could help align Kyrgyzstan’s initiative with existing SCO mechanisms and other proposals from research institutions across member countries, strengthening coordination within the organisation’s intellectual and policy framework.
