Federal Cabinet Ratifies Defense Cooperation Agreement with Kuwait

Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s federal cabinet has ratified a defense cooperation agreement with Kuwait, formalizing a framework for expanded collaboration between the two countries in military production, communications, research and other defense-related fields.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Pakistan and Kuwait signed the Defense Cooperation Agreement on June 11, 2023. The Kuwaiti government ratified the agreement on July 19 of the same year, while the latest cabinet decision completes Pakistan’s approval process.

The agreement provides for cooperation in military manufacturing, electronic communications systems, scientific research, military media, and cultural and sporting activities.

A joint military committee will oversee the implementation of the agreement and coordinate activities, including joint military exercises, official visits and other cooperative programs.

The pact will remain in force for five years and will be automatically renewed unless either country decides to terminate it. Both sides have also committed to protecting confidential military information and resolving any disputes arising from the agreement through diplomatic channels.

The framework is intended to provide an institutional mechanism for strengthening defence ties and expanding cooperation between the armed forces and relevant institutions of the two countries.
