Pakistan, Egypt Explore Ways to Enhance Cooperation in Counter-Terrorism and Cybercrime

Islamabad (TDI): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks on Saturday with a visiting delegation from Egypt focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism, cybercrime prevention, anti-narcotics operations, and safe city projects, according to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry.

The Egyptian delegation was led by Major General Magdy Helal and included Brigadier Essam Abu Al-Khair, Brigadier Engineer Mohamed Rady, and Brigadier Dr Mohamed Mounir.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen coordination between the interior ministries of Pakistan and Egypt and explore new areas of collaboration in internal security and law enforcement.

Officials also agreed to enhance cooperation between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and Egypt’s police academy through joint officer training programs and professional exchanges.

According to the Interior Ministry, Mohsin Naqvi said the visit by the Egyptian delegation would help identify new opportunities for bilateral cooperation and further deepen relations between the two countries. He added that Pakistan would soon send its own delegation to Egypt to continue discussions on areas of mutual interest.

Naqvi emphasized that closer coordination between the two interior ministries would contribute to stronger diplomatic and security ties between Islamabad and Cairo.

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, who also attended the meeting, said both countries had significant potential for cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts, narcotics control, and broader internal security matters.

The Egyptian delegation described its visits to Pakistani institutions, including the Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Police Academy, as highly useful and said both countries could benefit from sharing experiences and expertise.

The meeting comes weeks after Pakistan and Egypt conducted a joint two-week military exercise titled “Thunder-II,” which focused primarily on counter-terrorism training and operational coordination between the two countries’ armed forces.
