Islamabad (TDI): Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on Saturday praised Pakistan’s role in regional peace efforts during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest. During the exchange, Saidov appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role in mediation for regional peace and security,” particularly amid ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The Foreign Office said both foreign ministers agreed to remain in close contact and continue coordination on matters of shared concern.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan have significantly expanded bilateral engagement in recent years through cooperation in trade, defense, investment, and connectivity projects.
Earlier this year, the two countries signed agreements and memorandums of understanding worth around $3.4 billion during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Uzbekistan. Both sides also announced a target to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion within five years.
Among the agreements signed were measures aimed at enhancing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, trade facilitation, regional connectivity, and defense collaboration.
