Pakistan and Iraq to enhance bilateral ties

Islamabad, 13 August 2021 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein who is on an official visit to Pakistan.

“The Foreign Minister’s visit is a reflection of our desire to forge closer and deeper bilateral ties,” commented Qureshi appreciating his counterpart for visiting Pakistan.

The two sides discussed boosting joint cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, religious tourism, consular matters, defense, education, human resource, and infrastructure development. They also highlighted the significance of organizing the 9th session of the Joint Ministerial Commission. In addition, they discussed initiating a direct flight from Islamabad to Baghdad and vice versa.

After their fruitful talks, the two dignitaries signed a Memoranda of Understanding on Bilateral Political Consultations to establish a mechanism to hold political consultations between Pakistan and Iraq.

Pakistani Foreign Minister also underscored the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir and the need to find a solution.

Moreover, regarding Afghanistan, Qureshi recalled Pakistan’s efforts in supporting lasting peace and stability in the region. He also stated that the international community has the responsibility of bringing sustainable peace to Afghanistan.
