Beirut, 7 July 2022 (TDI): On July 6, Pakistani Ambassador to Lebanon; Salman Athar met Ali Hamieh, Lebanon’s Minister of Public Works and Transport. They considered the idea of establishing a direct flight from Karachi to Beirut, as well as ways and methods to improve bilateral ties.
Ambassador Salman Athar met the Prime Minister of Lebanon
Last month, Salman Athar visited Najib Mikati, Prime Minister of Lebanon; which took place in the Prime Minister’s Office. During the conversation, both parties assessed overall bilateral ties, with a focus on bilateral commerce and investment.
Ambassador Athar sent the warm congratulations and best wishes of Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, as well as the people of Pakistan for the personal health and happiness of Lebanon’s Prime Minister, as well as the continuing success and prosperity of Lebanon’s friendly people.
The Ambassador also highlighted the Government of Pakistan’s intention to develop bilateral ties with Lebanon.
The Ambassador informed the Prime Minister about Pakistan’s recent economic measures as well as business prospects in the country. He also commended Lebanon’s government for its ongoing support and praised the two countries’ collaboration at numerous international forums, including the United Nations.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that Lebanon is always willing to cooperate with Pakistan to further develop bilateral relations between the two nations.
Salman Athar met the Deputy Speaker of Lebanon
In the same week, Salman Athar met with Elias Bou Saab, Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament. During the meeting, the Ambassador extended congratulations from the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly on his election as Deputy Speaker.
The Ambassador highlighted the Government of Pakistan’s intention to expand bilateral legislative collaboration.
Elias Bou Saab sent his best wishes to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly. Saab also addressed the current state of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries with the Ambassador.
Pakistan and Lebanon’s bilateral ties
Lebanon and Pakistan enjoy friendly ties. Pakistan maintains an embassy in Beirut. Lebanon maintains an embassy in Islamabad.
Both nations are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. According to former Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani; Lebanon and Pakistan have the “same ideas on Middle East peace and stability, as well as future goals.”
