Islamabad, 3rd August 2024 (TDI): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for urban flooding in certain areas of Punjab and Sindh within the next 24 to 48 hours. According to the alert, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in southern and northeastern parts of Punjab, and northeastern parts of Sindh.
The cities likely to be affected include Mithi, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas, Matiari, Jamshoro, Umerkot, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, and Larkana. The NDMA has warned that heavy rainfall may cause water accumulation and urban flooding in these areas.
To mitigate the risks, residents are advised to take necessary precautions. They should stay away from flood-prone areas and seal their roofs and windows to prevent water leakage. Clearing drainage systems to prevent water accumulation is also crucial. Additionally, residents should unplug electrical appliances during heavy rainfall and avoid using them with wet hands. Crossing floodwaters should also be avoided. By taking these precautions, residents can ensure their safety and minimize the risks associated with urban flooding.
The NDMA has also directed provincial disaster management authorities and local administrations to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure public safety. With the alert in place, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary measures to protect themselves and their properties.
