Bishkek, 12 September 2024 (TDI): Trade between Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan has surged in the first eight months of 2024, reaching $14 million.
This figure includes $6 million worth of Afghan exports to Kyrgyzstan.
Afghanistan’s exports to Kyrgyzstan primarily consist of mineral water, carpets, non-alcoholic beverages, dried fruits, fruit juices, apricots, and sesame seeds.
The increase in trade comes amid a significant diplomatic development.
On September 6, Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the decision to remove the Taliban from its list of prohibited organizations.
The Ministry stated that this move aims to bolster regional stability and foster dialogue.
Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting international efforts for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan and surrounding region.
On the same day, a meeting was held between Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, and Nurullah Amin, Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan in Kyrgyzstan.
The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, with Japarov expressing interest in developing trade, transport links, and joint ventures in Afghan mineral deposits, as well as in the energy, industry, and agriculture sectors.
