Diwali Celebrated at Governor House Sindh

Karachi (TDI): The Hindu community in Pakistan celebrated its annual festival of lights – Diwali with fireworks, special prayers, and traditional rituals. A special ceremony was also organized at the Governor House, on Monday.

The colorful and vibrant event featured cake cutting, music, and the distribution of chocolates among children. The celebratory event was hosted by Professor Manoj Chohan and attended by Nikson Daniel, human rights defender and interfaith activist, along with community leaders, diplomats, and representatives of different faiths.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori said , “Members of Hindu community also live in this Governor House and they also have a temple here.”

“All minorities in Pakistan enjoy complete freedom, equal rights, and representation in every sector of national life,” he added.

The Governor also paid tribute to former Chief Justice Bhagwan Das for his remarkable services and reaffirmed that “the white color in Pakistan’s national flag represents peace, respect, and protection for all minority communities.”

The country’s political leadership and civil society poured in messages of greetings for the Hindu community on what is one of the most important religious observances and celebrations for Hindus across the world.

President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that the Constitution guarantees equal rights and complete freedom of religion to all citizens. He lauded the contributions of the Hindu community in areas such as education, commerce, and public service.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed “heartfelt greetings” to the Hindu community in Pakistan and worldwide, extending his best wishes for a joyful Diwali.

Other political figures in the country, including Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, as well as governor and chief minister of Sindh, also extended Diwali greetings.

Hindus in Pakistan are the largest minority community; making 2.17% of the country’s population. Most of them live in the Sindh province and have been an important part of social and cultural life.
