Beijing, 23 July 2024 (TDI): In a meeting that took place on Tuesday in Beijing, China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met with Hiroshi Moriyama, the chief of the general council of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). During the meeting, Wang Yi requested improved communication, understanding, and cooperation.
Wang, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), expressed his gratitude to Hiroshi Moriyama for his long-term concern and support for the improvement and development of relations between China and Japan.
According to Wang, China and Japan should support, understand, and assist one another as neighbouring countries. This is the appropriate approach for neighbouring countries to coexist and function effectively.
He noted that both parties should adhere to the provisions of the four political treaties that were signed between China and Japan, improve conversation, enhance mutual understanding, and expand cooperation through the implementation of these articles.
“This not only serves the interests of the people of both countries but also contributes to regional and even global peace and development,” according to the president.
Wang, who is also the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, stated that China will further comprehensively deepen reforms and that this will provide more opportunities for Japan’s development and China-Japan cooperation.
Wang made this statement while pointing out that the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has just been successfully held.
Concerning the difficulties surrounding the ocean release of polluted water from the Fukushima nuclear facility, Wang provided clarification on China’s viewpoint and expressed its concerns. Wang emphasized that the discharge from the ocean is connected to human health, the marine environment, and the interests of the international public.
The urgent task at hand is to establish a long-term international monitoring mechanism to guarantee the participation of all relevant parties, including China, in a manner that is both comprehensive and effective.
In addition to this, Wang elaborated on China’s stance regarding the Taiwan issue. It was brought to his attention that the Taiwan problem is connected to the political underpinning of the bilateral relations and that the Taiwan Strait is not a “political theatre.”
According to Wang, the Japanese side had to adhere to the spirit of the four political treaties that China and Japan have signed together, talk and act cautiously on the Taiwan matter, and make certain that the foundation of China-Japan relations continues to be intact and unshakable.
During his visit to China this time, after a gap of six years, Hiroshi Moriyama thoroughly sensed China’s rapid development and economic vigour. He expressed his sorrow for the floods and catastrophes that occurred in China’s Hunan Province and other areas.
