Uzbekistan Tops Central Asia in Happiness

-

Tashkent, (TDI): Uzbekistan has emerged as the happiest country in Central Asia, according to the latest World Happiness Report released by the World Population Review.

This year’s report ranks Uzbekistan 47th globally, marking a notable achievement for the nation.

Since its inception in 2002, the World Happiness Report employs statistical analysis to assess the wellbeing of countries.

The rankings are based on Gallup poll data collected over the past three years from 143 countries.

The analysis considers six key categories: gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption both domestically and internationally.

Seven Happiest Countries

The report highlights that the seven happiest countries for 2024 are predominantly in Europe, with Finland taking the top spot, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Conversely, Afghanistan ranks as the least happy country, positioned 143rd, due to its low life expectancy, GDP per capita, and the adverse effects of the Taliban’s takeover.

Kazakhstan follows closely behind Uzbekistan, securing the 49th spot in the global ranking, a decline from 44th last year.
The report notes that Kazakhstan’s slow population growth is likely to support continued economic progress and poverty reduction in the coming decades.

Tajikistan ranks 88th, with the report indicating that its rapid population growth poses challenges to its economy and resources.
The government has previously enacted laws aimed at promoting contraception to mitigate the birth rate, yet significant challenges remain.

Notably, the report does not provide updated data for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan this year.

In previous reports, Turkmenistan was ranked 78th in 2022, while Kyrgyzstan held the 62nd position in 2023.

Overall, Uzbekistan’s leading position in Central Asia reflects its strides toward improving the quality of life for its citizens and enhancing overall wellbeing.
