Uzbek President Accepts PM Shehbaz’s Invitation to visit Pakistan

Islamabad (TDI):  Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House today.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Uzbekistan and conveyed warm greetings to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Ambassador confirmed that President Mirziyoyev has accepted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation to visit Pakistan later this year. The visit will be scheduled through mutual consultation, reflecting the growing partnership between the two countries.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation during his visit to Tashkent last month.

He welcomed the progress made in bilateral relations, particularly the formation of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the signing of multiple agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) across various sectors.

To ensure the swift implementation of decisions made during his visit, the Prime Minister stated that he had directed the relevant ministers to take immediate follow-up actions.

He emphasized the importance of advancing cooperation in mining and minerals, railways—including the Trans-Afghan Railway project—special economic zones (SEZs), banking, tourism, and renewable energy.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the agreed-upon goal of increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion.

He stressed the need for a clear roadmap to expand economic cooperation and transform strong political ties into substantial commercial partnerships.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s dedication to deepening economic engagement with Pakistan. He highlighted President Mirziyoyev’s vision for fostering trade and investment partnerships that would benefit both nations.

Pakistan and Uzbekistan have maintained close cooperation on regional connectivity and trade expansion.

The upcoming visit by President Mirziyoyev is expected to further solidify economic and strategic collaboration, with discussions likely to focus on infrastructure projects and enhanced trade mechanisms.

The Prime Minister and the Ambassador agreed that continued high-level exchanges will play a crucial role in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
