SCO Calls for Multipolar World Order at Moscow Security Forum

Moscow (TDI): A senior delegation from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretariat attended a high-profile international security forum in Moscow last week, using the platform to advocate for a reformed global governance system and a more representative multipolar world.

The forum, held from May 26 to 29, 2026, was attended by a SCO delegation led by Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yangfan.

Hosted under the auspices of the Security Council of Russia, the event drew delegations from 145 countries and international organizations.

Speaking at the forum, Piao Yangfan outlined the SCO’s role on the world stage with pointed emphasis on shifting the balance of global power.

She elaborated on the organization’s contributions to maintaining regional peace, security, and stability, as well as its efforts toward reforming and improving the global governance system.

Piao reaffirmed the SCO’s commitment to advancing a fairer, more equitable, and more representative multipolar world order, while stressing the organization’s support for the central coordinating role of the United Nations.

The remarks signal the bloc’s continued push to position itself as a counterweight to Western-led international institutions, even as it frames its agenda in the language of multilateralism and UN primacy.

The Deputy Secretary-General also briefed attendees on the expansion of cooperation within the SCO, including ongoing efforts to strengthen security cooperation mechanisms among member states.

She concluded by stating the SCO’s readiness to deepen partnerships with all peace-loving countries, international organizations, and public institutions, with the goal of ensuring peaceful and stable living conditions for people across the region and beyond.

The Moscow forum provided the SCO with an effective platform to reinforce its vision of a post-unipolar international order at a moment when geopolitical fault lines between East and West remain sharply drawn.
