Aliyev Congratulates Italian President on Republic Day, Reaffirms Strong Ties

Baku (TDI): Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Italian President Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, highlighting the growing strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his letter, Aliyev extended greetings on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan and described Italy as a close friend and a reliable strategic partner. He noted that cooperation between Baku and Rome has continued to deepen across political, economic, and cultural spheres, with ties expanding in both scope and substance.

The Azerbaijani president emphasized that recent high-level exchanges have reflected the strong state of relations, including President Mattarella’s official visit to Azerbaijan in October of the previous year. He pointed to joint participation in the inauguration of the Italy–Azerbaijan University as an example of the importance both sides attach to educational and cultural cooperation.

Aliyev also underscored that the two countries maintain a broad and evolving partnership, particularly in areas such as trade, energy, industry, and education. He said both sides continue to explore opportunities to expand collaboration into new sectors, including investment, defense, and humanitarian initiatives.

Describing the relationship as “strategic in nature,” he said further efforts should focus on fully utilizing existing economic potential and diversifying cooperation to ensure long-term growth in bilateral ties.

The Azerbaijani president concluded by expressing confidence that both countries would continue working together to strengthen friendship and deepen cooperation, while wishing the Italian people continued prosperity and well-being.
