Riyadh (TDI): Saudi Arabia has awarded Pakistan’s top military general, Sahir Shamshad Mirza – the Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, with the King Abdulaziz Medal for his efforts toward improved relations between the two countries.
The medal was presented in a meeting between the Pakistani General and the Saudi Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant-General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, in Riyadh. Top security officials from both countries were present in the ceremony.
King Abdul Aziz Medal is one of the most prestigious awards of the Kingdom, which is bestowed on both Saudi nationals as well as foreigners for exceptional service.
“In implementation of the directive of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is the Supreme Commander of All Military Forces, Chairman of the General Staff General Fayyad Al-Ruwaili decorated Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad, with the King Abdulaziz Medal (First Class) in Riyadh,” the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

SPA also said that the award has been presented to General Mirza for his role in strengthening friendship and promoting cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ruwaili and General Mirza also discussed regional security environment in the same meeting, and took stock of military and defense cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Previously, King Abdul Aziz Medal has also been awarded to several Pakistani Chiefs of Army Staff, including General Qamar Javed Bajwa, General Pervez Musharraf, and General Raheel Sharif.
Recently, the defense partnership between Pakistan and the Kingdom as assumed a notable stature with the signing of the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, in September.
The agreement ties both countries in a relation of mutual defense; which means any attack on one country is an attack on the other and both collaborate to respond to such aggression.
