Kazakh President Suggests Climate Solutions

Abu Dhabi (TDI): Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev attended the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week summit, where global leaders and experts convened to address pressing challenges in sustainable development.

In his address, Tokayev underlined the urgent threats posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification, and food insecurity – issues exacerbated by geopolitical tensions and disruptions to international supply chains.

Tokayev presented Kazakhstan’s strategy for tackling these challenges, focusing on digitalization, major infrastructure projects, and nuclear energy.

Noting that international energy systems account for 75 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, he highlighted Kazakhstan’s commitment to green energy development.

The country is collaborating with global partners, including Masdar, Total, and Eni, to implement projects to produce 43 GW of renewable energy.

Moreover, Tokayev underlined the strategic importance of constructing Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant, an initiative backed through a national referendum.
