Authorities in Ethiopia have been working to rescue survivors and assist displaced residents after intense rainfall caused widespread destruction in affected areas.
Local officials reported that the death toll from the floods and mudslides since last week had risen to at least 64, while search operations continue for individuals still unaccounted for.
Floods and landslides are recurring hazards in Ethiopia, particularly during periods of heavy seasonal rainfall. Sudden downpours often lead to soil instability in mountainous and rural areas, increasing the risk of deadly mudslides and flooding.
Pakistan’s message of support also reflects its own vulnerability to climate-related disasters. The South Asian country is considered among the nations most exposed to the impacts of climate change, frequently facing extreme weather events including droughts, heatwaves and severe flooding.
In recent years, Pakistan has experienced multiple devastating floods, highlighting the growing global challenges posed by climate change.
Last year alone, more than 1,000 people in Pakistan died during the monsoon season as heavy rains and flooding caused widespread damage across several regions.
Search and rescue efforts in Ethiopia remain ongoing as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and continue efforts to locate missing individuals.
