Tehran (TDI): Iran on Monday claimed that those responsible for launching the war had suffered a major defeat, as Tehran defended the newly announced peace agreement with the United States and called for an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the outcome of the conflict demonstrated that those who initiated the war had failed to achieve their objectives.
“Those who started the war have been defeated hugely,” Baghaei said, while reiterating Iran’s position that the agreement reflected the resilience of the country during months of hostilities.
He said a final decision regarding the mechanism and timing of signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be taken within the next two days and announced officially.

Baghaei also revealed that Iranian officials would undertake regional consultations before the formal signing ceremony in Switzerland later this week.
According to the spokesperson, the agreement requires the United States to facilitate Iran’s access to frozen assets, stressing that the arrangement does not involve direct US financial payments to Tehran.
He said Iran would coordinate with Oman and other regional countries to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during the implementation phase of the agreement, while warning that Tehran would respond if Washington failed to fulfil its commitments.
Baghaei also pointed to decades of mistrust between Tehran and Washington, citing the 1953 coup against Iran’s elected government as a key factor behind Iran’s skepticism toward the United States. “There is a long road for the United States to go to gain our trust,” he said.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held telephone conversations with senior officials from Iraq, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, stressing that Washington bears responsibility for implementing the Pakistan-mediated agreement.

According to Iranian state media, Araghchi emphasized the need to preserve diplomatic momentum and strengthen regional stability, while calling for an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity forms part of the broader understanding reached during negotiations.
