Riyadh (TDI): Iranian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alireza Enayati claimed on Sunday that attacks on Gulf countries attributed to Tehran were actually the work of external actors, namely the United States and Israel.

Posting on X, Enayati shared a notice from Iran’s military command asserting that “the enemy” was using drones disguised as Iranian Shahed drones, under the label “Lucas drone.”

The message emphasized that Iran is targeting only US military and “the Zionist entity” in retaliation for attacks on its territory. “The Islamic Republic of Iran only attacks targets, centers, and interests of the United States and the Zionist entity, and will bear responsibility for any place it targets by issuing an official statement,” the notice said.

Regional authorities report that thousands of Iranian missiles and drones have been launched toward the Gulf since late February, targeting US military assets but also affecting civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, energy facilities, and residential areas in Gulf countries.

On Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf countries and Jordan, demanding that Tehran halt hostilities immediately. The measure, sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council and co-sponsored by 135 UN member states, passed with 13 out of 15 votes in favor.

Enayati said Iran’s relations with Arab Gulf states would require a “serious review” due to the conflict. He denied responsibility for attacks on Saudi oil facilities at Ras Tanura and Shaybah, emphasizing that the war has been “imposed on us and the region.”

He stressed the importance of stronger regional ties, advocating closer cooperation among the six GCC members, Iraq, and Iran. Enayati said he maintains ongoing contact with Saudi officials, highlighting areas of progress such as the management of Iranian pilgrims and medical assistance. He also noted discussions regarding Saudi Arabia’s declaration that its territory, airspace, and waters will not be used to attack Iran.

To resolve the conflict, Enayati said the US and Israel must cease their attacks, regional countries should refrain from involvement, and international guarantees should be established to prevent further escalation. “Only then can we focus on building a prosperous region,” he added.
