Beijing (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and foster a shared future with regional and global impact in talks held in Beijing.

President Prabowo’s state visit to China, his first overseas trip since taking office, underscored Indonesia’s commitment to building closer ties with China, highlighting the strategic importance of the relationship.

President Xi commended Prabowo’s choice of China as his first destination, emphasizing the significance both countries place on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to a strategic partnership rooted in mutual support, particularly in advancing shared core interests, and underscored the importance of adhering to principles of fairness, justice, and strategic autonomy in their bilateral engagement.

Both leaders discussed furthering cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with a focus on high-quality projects like the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” project.

Xi highlighted opportunities for cooperation in digital economy, advanced manufacturing, and maritime development, aiming for broader mutual benefits in economic growth and infrastructure development.

This year, marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, both countries agreed to reinforce the Bandung Spirit’s ideals of peace, cooperation, and inclusivity.

Xi emphasized the need for both nations, as major emerging economies, to lead Global South countries in advocating for fairer global governance and to counter unilateralism and protectionism.

Prabowo Reaffirms Indonesia’s Support

President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for the one-China policy and its commitment to non-alignment, avoiding military alliances and blocs.

He also expressed appreciation for China’s stance on international issues, such as the Palestinian cause.

Both countries committed to enhancing multilateral coordination through forums like the G20, aiming to champion the interests of developing nations and contribute to a balanced multipolar world.

Following the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements, covering areas including the blue economy, water management, and mineral resources.

A joint statement was issued, reaffirming their comprehensive strategic partnership and commitment to a China-Indonesia community with shared objectives and values.
